to have our founder, Tracey Stevens,
receive the 2012 VW Beetle that
was given to her by Oprah Winfrey
and her staff! We've included

below.

NOMINATED AS AN OPRAH HERO
RECEIVES 2012 VW BEETLE
FOR
IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Author
of coming out and relationship
books for women receives new
2012 VW Beetle won on the last
Oprah's Favorite Things show.
 ASHEVILLE,
NC, October 13, 2011 --
Tracey Stevens, shown on left
in photo, nominated for the
Oprah Hero's show, which was
actually the last Oprah's Favorite
Things show, receives the newly
redesigned 2012 VW Beetle.
In
November of 2010, author Tracey
Stevens was secretly nominated
by 10 members of her support
group for women coming out for
the Oprah's Hero's show. Stevens
was contacted by Harpo Studios
and flew to Chicago in hopes
to speak about the support group
she started and has managed
since November, 2003.
The
Oprah Hero's show was actually
the last Oprah's Favorite Things
show, where Oprah honored 275
heroes and ultimate viewers
with incredible gifts, including
the brand new redesigned 2012
VW Beetle.
"I
was totally amazed by what happened
at Harpo Studios, and I was
so honored to be chosen by Oprah
and her staff as a hero for
the work I have done with women
in the Support For Lesbians
Coming Out group (SFLCO). Since
November 5, 2003 we have helped
over 5,000 women, many who are
surrounded by misunderstanding
or hate and persecution from
their families, churches and
communities. Some are terrified
with no place to turn, and our
support group has given them
a safe space to be who they
truly are. Because of this honor
from Oprah and her amazing staff,
my partner of 18 years and I,
along with members of our support
group, are now working towards
starting a nonprofit where we
can help LGBT youths that are
homeless. It is estimated that
over 40% of runaways are LGBT
and have been kicked out of
their homes. I was one of those
kids, abused and kicked out
at 17, and I’ve been on
my own ever since. My goal is
to set up a nonprofit agency
that can help get these kids
off the streets, and provide
them with the education they
need to succeed. My partner,
Katherine Wunder, and I had
a meeting with our support group
members at our yearly conference
last week, and we are brainstorming
on ways to incorporate the talents
of the members of our group
in order to raise  money
to accomplish this dream I've
had for years. I’m working
towards paying what Oprah did
for me forward," Stevens
said.
Stevens
plans to sell her new VW for
funding for her support group
and the new nonprofit that will
help homeless LGBT youths.

October
is National Coming Out Month!
National Coming Out Day was Oct.
11, 2011. This is the anniversary
of the 1987 Gay and Lesbian March
on Washington. Over 500,000 people
from all over the country marched
for our rights, and this event
is still honored every year.
National Coming Out events are
aimed at raising awareness of
the LGBT community among the general
populace in an effort to give
a familiar face to the LGBT rights
movement.
What
this means, is that once again
it's time to burst forth from
our closets! To celebrate this
lovely In-Your-Face month, visit

SUPPORT
FOR LESBIANS COMING OUT GROUP
Our Lesbian/BI
Women Online Support Group
now has over 1,000 members from
all over the world, and just this
month we had women join who are
living in England and Africa!
Here's a recent comment from one
of our members:
"I
initially joined because I felt
like I was stumbling around
in the dark with questions I
did not have answers to. I had
to watch and read in silence
for a considerable amount of
time before engaging in any
conversations being very concerned
for anonymity and such. Quite
skeptical, and very hesitant
and doubtful, I have since learned
that the individuals in here
are concerned, knowledgeable,
and truly care about everyone
in the group no matter what
stage the individual may be
in. They will be very conscientious
about the privacy and well-being
of its members. Whether you
are gay, bi, or just seeking
to find out where you are....These
people will make every attempt
to help, support, listen, and
speak truthfully with you in
an honorable and caring fashion."
OUR
SIXTH ANNUAL SUPPORT FOR
LESBIANS COMING OUT FALLFEST!
Amazing
Dreams Publishing had our sixth
annual SFLCO (Support For Lesbians
Coming Out) weekend , and women
flew in from around the country
to attend. This is what one
of our members wrote about this
years SFLCO Fallfest:
We
cooked, we grocery shopped endlessly,
we ate dinners around a huge
round table like a family. We
stayed up way too late and got
up way too early, as if nobody
wanted to miss out on anything.
We shared our stories, and asked
others about theirs, and really
just enjoyed being in a safe
atmosphere, with women who understood
us, who were like us. Not having
to edit our words, but being
able to speak our minds and
feelings, was liberating and
empowering. It was the support
and camaraderie of posting in
our SFLCO group times a thousand...
As
always, sending huge THANKS
to everyone who has spread the
word about our website and our
coming out support group.
Another
way that we fund our free services
